LIGHTEN UP
Though it seems like Connecticut now only has two seasons, technically it’s still Spring, which means it’s probably time to take a look at your skincare routine and make some tweaks. And if it’s been more than a couple of months since your last facial treatment, it’s time to book that too.
I always talk about how important consistency is, but that doesn’t mean we should be using the same things forever. We just need to a.) give new things time to work and b.) make changes only when necessary. Typically, it’s good to take a look at what you’re doing on a seasonal basis. What was working for your skin in the Winter time might not be what it needs when it’s hot out. Of course, this depends on your skin, your lifestyle, where you live, and plenty of other factors. But in general, it’s best to leave the thicker formulas for Fall and Winter and stick to the lighter ones for Spring and Summer. You’ll likely be okay to step back a bit from your facial oils in the Summer as well. If you are the type of person that doesn’t heed the constant warnings that SPF is for 365 days a year, then I at the very least hope that you’re the type of person that will be applying it daily during the sunnier months. Whether you burn or not, those rays are entering your body and doing damage!
Another switch you might want to make is to cut back on anything tyrosinase inhibiting (aka pigmentation reducing). Essentially, if you’re trying to focus on lightening dark spots, Summer isn’t the season you want to be putting in the effort or money. Being outside more will bring that pigment to the surface, even if you’re good at reapplying. Save that kind of treatment for the months when you’re doing the vampire thing and never leaving the house. But keep up with the Vitamin C, because it doesn’t just brighten, it fights free radicals. Vitamin C + SPF = BFFs.
